The Department of Mental Health is under the School of Nursing and Midwifery within the College of Health and Allied Sciences. The Department became operational in 2014/2015 academic year to run two degree programmes in B.Sc Mental Health Nursing and B.Sc. Community Mental Health Nursing. The Department runs both regular and sandwich B.Sc. programmes
Recognizing the need for further education and continuous professional development for mental health nurses in Ghana, this programme was designed to strengthen the Mental Health delivery system by upgrading the competencies of mental health nurses. The programme will empower graduate nurses apply evidence-based tools in clinical decision-making.
The Department is the first to start graduate programmes in mental health nursing in Ghana with 15 students in the 2014/2015 academic year. Currently, student enrolment for the regular and sandwich programmes are over 200. Some of our products are currently working with the Ghana Health Service, Non-governmental organizations and the Mental Health Authority. Join us.
